87.9% of all books sold in this nation are nonfiction, creating $9.7 billion in revenue in 2005, according to the Book Industry Study Group. That's approximately 723 million books!
According to the BISG's report, the two most profitable secondary revenue centers for people who publish books are speaking/seminars and consulting. Speaking generates a whopping 48.9% of non-book profits, with consulting close behind at 47.6%.
The National Speakers Association, the largest and most prestigious organization of professional speakers in the world and of which Wendy Keller has been a member since 1995, reports that the majority of speakers speak 20-30 times a year at an average income of $1,000-$3,000 for 45 - 90 minutes of talking. We represent many clients who customarily speak more often than that for fees in the $10,000-$25,000 range.
